Sleepless in Sidney

It's late; approximately 2:00 a.m.  I just can't seem to sleep.  Do you ever have a night like that?  What causes it?  Please don't tell me it's my age. Anyway, I had a busy, productive day.  I was tired when I went to bed and I fell asleep quickly.  But 3 hrs. later, I'm awake and since I couldn't get back to sleep, here I am rambling on my computer.  I don't have anything much to say except I should be sleeping.

Perhaps, I am thinking about our trip back to Ontario.  There are so many people that we haven't seen for quite a while and it will be good to see them.  As well, I can't help but think about my brother, Bill.

Where does all this cancer come from?  I am convinced  that there is no real answer.  Many factors can play a part; such as what we eat and drink.  It is important to participate in some form of exercise regularly and get plenty of rest.  It is also very important to eliminate the stress from our lives.  Making time to relax is paramount.  Unforgiveness, resentments and unresolved issues are also key factors to our health.  Then, there is the issue of an accumulation of radiation in our lives.

While these may be factors affecting our susceptibility to cancer as we age, what about babies and children?

Well, enough said.  I'm going to try to go back to sleep.

A busy fall

Well, here I am again and I know it's been a while.

So much has happened.  A new school year has started and my first grandson has begun kindergarten.  After just a few short weeks, he already seems more grown-up.  He even has his first girl friend.  Can you believe it?
We also have a new set of children in the preschool where I work.

I received news from my oldest brother, age 58, that he has rectal cancer.  He has chosen to fight this cancer alternatively as the end result for him, after surgery is to wear a bag the rest of his life.  If there is anyone reading this who has any experience with this type of cancer and/or wearing a bag; would you please contact me either by e-mail or phone 250-655-4265.  I am trying to support him in any way that I can and would appreciate any help and prayers for him.

Also, it was my husband's 65th birthday this month.  Our 40th wedding anniversary is this fall and I will be turning 60.  So, we have been busy planning an Open House, dinner and dance to celebrate.  We are flying back to Ontario to be with our family and friends in October.

I, of course, have been shopping as well for just the right outfit to wear and I found it.  It is classy and elegant, but also a bit sassy.

As an aside, I just heard about someone who had cancer as a child and after many treatments and a bone marrow transplant was declared cancer free.  But now as an adult, the cancer has returned, as a result of so much radiation when she was younger.  This is just another reason to be cautious about how many x-rays, ct scans, etc. that we allow ourselves to have.

Hello

Hi, I have been away for so long that I don't even know if there is anyone out there still reading what I have to say. It has been an extremely busy summer.  We had house guests for a few weeks, my daughter, her husband and 2 1/2 yr. old twins, Kameelah & Keelan.   I continued to work at the preschool and also helped out in a local store that sells beautiful things from Peru.

The store is called El Dorado Treasures and has some fantastic stuff in it.  I don't really make anything as I take merchandise instead.  It has ben fun though, doing something entirely different from anything else that I have done.

A new school year has just started and I'm looking forward to this fall.  You see, there are three major events happening.  In September, Wynn is  turning 65 and will begin to get the old age pension.  We can hardly believe it.  But he is looking forward to a few perks, such as riding the ferry free on certain days and taking advantage of senior citizen days.
In November, I am turning 60 and will be getting my government pension from the CPP.  Yippee!
And lastly, Wynn and I will be married 40 years on October 12th, 2008.  Wow!
It is hard to believe that we have been married that long and then there are those days,.... but we won't go there.

After much discussion, Wynn and I have decided to go back to Ontario, where we lived for most of our lives, to throw a big party to celebrate these three events.  The day has been set and it should be a blast.  So far, only about 100 people are on the list.  I am really looking forward to seeing lots of family and friends and dancing the night away.
